PRP stands for platelet rich plasma.
Platelets also known as megakaryocytes are present in blood and contains granules that are rich source of growth factors and other bio molecules important for tissue repair and regeneration.
Platelet releases a broad range of growth factors like PDGF, VEGF, EGF, FGF, TGF and many more.
These factors are known to regulate cell migration, proliferation and deposition of new extracellular matrix, all of which contribute to tissue regeneration and thus the hair growth.
In PRP therapy we usually withdraw 18 -20 ml of blood from patient vein which is then subjected to centrifugation in a centrifuge machine.
PRP harvested through this centrifugation process is injected in the patient’s scalp for hair growth and regeneration.
